5/13/2023 0 Comments Goddamn This War! by Jacques Tardi![]() ![]() ![]() He also began 'Griffu' (text by Jean-Patrick Manchette) in B.D. ![]() That same year, he began the famous mystery series 'Adèle Blanc-Sec' in the Sud-Ouest daily. Several of his short stories were collected in the album 'Mouh-Mouh' in 1979. For Métal Hurlant, Tardi created 'Polonius' with writer Picaret in 1976. He expanded his activities in 1975, and drew for Libération, Charlie Mensuel and L'Écho des Savanes. For Dargaud, he produced 'Le Démon des Glaces' and 'La Véritable Histoire du Soldat Inconnu'. He also worked in the western genre for Record ('Blue Jackett', 'Cheval Gris'). He started out illustrating several short stories written by Jean Giraud and Serge De Beketch, before he drew the political fiction story 'Rumeurs sur le Rouergue' (text by Pierre Christin). Tardi is the father of "the new realism" and a master in depicting both the old city of Paris as the awful life in the trenches of the Big War. After studying fine arts in Lyon and decorative arts in Paris, Tardi joined Pilote magazine in 1970. Tardi's expressionistic style is perfect for his stories about World War I and about the underworld of the city. ![]() He invented a new variation within the clear line style and in this way inspired many artists. Jacques Tardi is without a doubt one of the most important artists of his generation. ![]() ![]() This book is one where you feel like you are living in the actual pages of the book, and Peter and Elizabeth quickly become family to you instead of just characters on paper pages - or electronic pages as the case may be. I must admit I am not usually a fan of stories where the lead characters are separated for years like they are in Lost Love's Return, but after reading the synopsis, I just had to give this book a chance, I am so very glad I did! ![]() Lost Love's Return is a poignant love story that literally hits the reader in the heart and takes the reader on the journey of a lifetime, living through the joys and sorrows of Alfred Nicols characters that seem to draw you into their lives whether you realize it or not. ![]() 5/13/2023 0 Comments The sunne in splendour review![]() CONFESSIONS OF A JANE AUSTEN ADDICT - MY REVIEW.TALKING JANE AUSTEN WITH AUTHOR LYNN SHEPHERD - PA.RA FRIDAY - AUGUST ANNIVERSARIES AND BIRTHDAYS!.VICTORIAN TALES - THE MILL ON THE FLOSS AND FINGER.WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? RUPERT PENRY-JONES!.THE PILLARS OF THE EARTH (1989) - BOOK REVIEW.A complex modern literary creature, not merely a chivalric hero. The deformed killer with no moral scruples becomes a man with a conscience and capable of deep love and loyalty, both reasons of his success and his undoing. Penman’s detailed historical research permitted her not only to rescue King Richard III’s reputation from what the Tudors’ historians first, then Shakespeare, did of it, but also to tranform the vilified king into a modern romantic hero. Physically, we are presented with a Richard, ‘Deform’d, unfinish’d…’, a twisted hunchback with a shriveled arm, reflecting a profoundly evil character. And, most famously, the disposing of his two child nephews in the Tower of Londonĥ.Not content with all this, Shakespeare also has Richard poisoning his wife in order to marry his niece.Ħ. The list of ‘crimes’ attributed to Richard III by William Shakespeare is long. ![]() 5/13/2023 0 Comments The abyss surrounds us book 2![]() Finally, she does tell her brother what is going on but in my opinion, it is too little too late to save a lot of people’s lives…even if they are pirates. Honestly, there are people’s lives at stake and it appears to me that she is afraid of what her family will think of her instead of telling them what is happening and getting help to put an end to it. She sits in front of a computer and reads emails from her brother but does not bother to tell him what is happening. I have this opinion mainly because once she knew what Murphy had done and the ramifications the world faced because of that she had the opportunity to get the information out, but she does not do it. ![]() Admittedly, she is a teenager and makes a lot of stupid decisions and appears to be self-centred. The story is good, but Cas is effing stupid. Edge of the abyss is the second part of the story of a young woman named Cas. ![]() I could be wrong but that is what I think. ![]() I think Emily wrote the main character in a way she felt a person of that age and maturity would act. The concept behind the story is wonderful and Emily did a good job writing it even if I don't agree with the decisions of the main character. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Baldwin's play The Amen Corner was first performed at Howard University in 1955 (it was staged commercially in the 1960s), and his acclaimed collection of essays Notes of a Native Son, was published the same year. ![]() "Mountain is the book I had to write if I was ever going to write anything else," he remarked. Originally published in 1953, Baldwin said of his first novel, Mountain is the book I had to write if I was ever going to write anything else. With lyrical precision, psychological directness, resonating symbolic power, and a rage that is at once unrelenting and compassionate, Baldwin tells the story of the stepson of the minister of a storefront Pentecostal church in Harlem one Saturday in March of 1935. Baldwin's rendering of his protagonist's spiritual, sexual, and moral struggle of self-invention opened new possibilities in the American language and in the way Americans understand themselves. In one of the greatest American classics, Baldwin chronicles a fourteen-year-old boy's discovery of the terms of his identity. ![]() ![]() ![]() “A Love Story Written on Water” by Ashok K.
